In August 2016, we published our influential ‘Making Space’ report.  Funded by Arts Council England and The Mayor’s office, the report investigates the UK’s existing creative workspace provision, describes the on-going challenges to sustainability and identifies the emergence of new forms of provision and potential additional funding models.

The report was the result of extensive consultation with almost 100 stakeholders across the UK and internationally including

  • established and emerging studio spaces in London and beyond
  • developers
  • local authorities
  • Further and Higher Education providers and international partners.

We have documented the variety of models being used to enable space provision for artists and makers alongside making a set of recommendations that would help support and grow this essential infrastructure. The report has led to the establishment of a number of new initiatives, including the Mayor of London’s Creative Land Trust (launched February 2019).
