Creative Industry Finance

Madia & Matilda is a sustainable fashion company based in The Cotswolds. The label specialises in up-cycled and sustainable fabrics which are then transformed into ready-to-wear items. She tells us:

“I’ve always been interested in sustainable fashion without even being aware of it. I studied Fine Art at college before going on to complete a Fashion Design and Tech degree at Manchester. Through some amazing work placements, most notably Mary Katranzou, I discovered my passion for designing womenswear with vintage fabrics.

I started Madia & Matilda in 2013. I’m inspired by various elements of crafts and design and incorporate aspects of this into my pieces. The brand is renowned for its pop-ups within the Cotswolds area and has featured on online retailer sites such as Silk Fred and ASOS.

I applied to the Creative Industry Finance programme so I could seek guidance and support from a business advisor who understood the fashion industry. Working with my advisor Stuart Balmerwas great; together we went through my current business plan and identified the ways it needed to be improved, in order to have the best chance of securing loan finance.

The future of Madia & Matilda is looking bright. I have recently been nominated for a Young Persons Business award, which is a testament as to how far the business has come. I hope to see steady growth of the brand and to continue pushing the sustainable fashion movement across the UK.”
