Re:Create business support programme rolled out to second London borough
We are excited to share the news that our successful business support programme, Re:Create is expanding to its second London Borough.
The Re:Create scheme, which was piloted in Wandsworth, has already generated an estimated £165,000 in additional income for creatives, helped more than 100 businesses and seen new jobs created over the past three years. This year, the scheme will not only return to Wandsworth, but it will also make its debut in the borough of Richmond.
The programme will offer any creative business in the borough, from start-ups to well-established enterprises, the chance to apply for free professional advice and teaching through our e-learning platform. The course covers the fundamentals of business success, from business planning and finance to marketing, leadership and team building.
In addition, a select group of 20 businesses will have the chance to receive tailored 1-to-1 mentoring with a business expert. The successful applicants will need to show that they will benefit from support, have an ambition to grow, and have been operating for a minimum of 12 months.
Developed and delivered by Creative United and funded by Richmond Council and UK Shared Prosperity Fund, Re:Create Richmond aims to empower creative, self-employed individuals and small enterprises to develop and thrive.

Words from Cllr Phil Giesler, Lead Member for Business and Growth:
Enterprise is at the heart of Richmond Borough. Even more so since the pandemic, the creative spirit of the Borough has been unleashed as ever-increasing numbers of our residents have chosen to follow their passions and look to build and develop their own business ideas. At Richmond Council, we recognise this trend, and we are delighted to be able to support our creative entrepreneurs, start-ups and sole traders, through programmes like Re:Create Richmond, to give then the best chance to build successful businesses for the future.”
Sarah Thirtle from Creative United added:
The creative industries are a fundamental part of a vibrant and prosperous society; but finding a sustainable business model as a creative sole trader or small business can feel like an impossible task. We developed the Re:Create programme to help solve that problem.
Our experience with Wandsworth has already delivered fantastic results – both in economic terms but also importantly in confidence and skills for those who took part. Thanks to Richmond Council, we’re delighted to offer these opportunities to the wonderful creative businesses in the borough.”
