Inclusive Music Consortium

About the Inclusive Music Consortium
The Inclusive Music Consortium (“the Consortium”) is an award-winning group of UK based organisations and individuals that have a shared commitment to improving the range of musical instruments, learning opportunities and professional pathways into the music industry for disabled people of all ages and abilities.
Purpose of the Consortium:
The principal purpose of the Consortium is to create a forum for the exchange of information and ideas that support the advancement of the following objectives:
- Understanding the existing and potential demand for adapted musical instruments, assistive equipment and accessible technology by aspiring and professional musicians of all kinds, and in particular disabled children and adults
- Advocating for the development, production and supply of accessible musical instruments and equipment to enable inclusive access to music making for people of all ages
- Exploring ways in which we can support music industry professionals to acquire the knowledge and skills they need to ensure that music services and experiences of all kinds are delivered in an inclusive and accessible way
- Raising the profile of music making by disabled children and adults by increasing awareness of the opportunities and sources of support available through the work of the Consortium partners, and others
Projects, partnerships and other ways of working:
Members of the Consortium recognise that the changes and improvements that need to happen in order to make a more equitable and accessible music sector cannot be achieved by any one organisation or individual alone. That’s why we’ve chosen to work together to drive forward change through active collaboration and information sharing.
From time to time, we may come together to work on a specific project that involves two or more of our members. The results of these collaborative projects will be shared with the wider IMC and used to help advance the objectives we have set ourselves.
We also work together by sharing knowledge and the insights of those with lived experience of disability to demonstrate to relevant stakeholders, funders and policy makers the economic and social value of creating a more inclusive, diverse and equitable music sector across the UK.
