Krystal's Re:Create Story

As a freelancer, Krystal found the balance between the creative and operational sides of her business was limiting her capacity to grow. The demands of juggling the digital promotion with illustration work within limited resources was creating a barrier to growing her audience.

With an ambition to create a more sustainable and profitable business while remaining innovative, we matched Krystal with mentor Laura Mulhern Together they addressed ways to help Krystal further unlock the potential of the business – including strategies around pricing, targeted marketing and SEO, gallery and brand approaches and networking.

Krystal reported a dramatic increase in confidence in all aspects of running her business as a result of her experience on Re:Create Wandsworth.

“The mentor sessions with Laura have made such an impact on my business but most importantly on my confidence. The guidance Laura has given me has helped me carve a clear plan for my business and I now feel I have the tools to build my business with confidence and insight,” said Krystal.

“In the few months I have had with my mentor I have progressed with my business more than I had in a whole year,” she added.

This increased confidence and focus led to concrete work, with Krystal taking part in her first group show in a gallery and an art fair that resulted in several new commissions.

Looking ahead

Looking to the future, Krystal is feeling confident in further embedding and implementing the learning from her time on Re:Create. With innovation still driving her ambitions, Krystal says she’s now put in motion plans to “tick off some big dreams” in her business, including organising a group show as part of the upcoming Wandsworth Arts Fringe (WAF) celebrations.

Reaching out to potential new clients, brands, galleries and venues with a new-found confidence, combined with implementing practical steps to enhance her marketing and SEO, Krystal is looking forward to an exciting year ahead:

I feel 2025 is already off to a good start due to the fact I now have a clear plan for the year. This year I will be spending my time differently, focusing on areas of my business that require more attention and less time over-thinking.”
