Poppy Pippin is an award-winning product designer and founder of Moss Tiles – a new solution to outdoor green facades.
The tiles are designed to improve air quality by promoting the growth of moss and encouraging biodiversity in local urban environments.
Poppy joined the Re:Create programme to help address the challenges she was facing in bringing her innovative product design successfully to market. Keen to secure funding, grow the company and sharpen business skills, we paired Poppy with experienced business mentor, James West.
Poppy's Re:Create Story
Together, James and Poppy reviewed the company’s approach to financial planning, positioning, sales targets and routes to market over the coming three years. Poppy carried out an in–depth competitor analysis and they explored and refined the company’s value proposition.
“The business mentoring was very helpful. The mentor supported me, provided notes from the meeting and worksheets and was helpful to bounce ideas off. I learnt about different avenues to launch my product commercially. And where to locate my product in the market.”
Thanks to her mentoring sessions, Poppy also reported a vast improvement in confidence and skills in E–commerce, rating herself 10/10 at the end of the programme, from 2/10 at the start.
“My mentor helped me realise other ways I can sell. I have thought about my avenues for selling the product differently and how to market myself as a business on those platforms.”
The Re:Create Effect
Poppy expects to increase her income as a result of being on Re:Create and has also learned valuable lessons in resilience.
“It has changed my mindset towards my business, for example, trying something and if it doesn’t work that is ok, and to use it as a learning curve.”
Reporting an increase in confidence in managing cash flow, marketing (including digital) strategy, setting the value of products and team building, Poppy is well set up for a positive year ahead.
