PLACED delivers creative Education and Engagement programmes that bring people together to make better places. We engage people in design, planning and development, connecting communities, decision makers, schools and businesses across the North West.

Through our work we advocate for better engagement and education about the built environment. It is our belief that we are all experts in the design of the places and spaces we live, work and spend time in.We are a Social Enterprise and our values are at the heart of all we do.

As advocates for genuine involvement of communities and stakeholders, putting creativity at the heart of our approach, helping to ensure those who do not traditionally have a voice can participate on an equal platform. We work with our clients, including local authorities, housing associations, design practices, community organisations and university to involve people in the design and decision making in their neighbourhoods. We ensure that engagement is creative, early stage and meaningful and can inform the decision making process.

Our education work reflects our belief that creative learning is an invaluable tool in developing young people’s confidence, self-belief and skills and that placing the built environment at the heart of this creativity means we can create empowered young citizens who know their view matters and that they have the potential to shape the places in which they live. We also believe it is a priority to support young people under-represented in the built environment in accessing the sector: whether young women, those from black and ethnic minority communities and those from less privileged areas. Our education programme includes school workshops and our yearlong PLACED Academy, supporting young people to make the most of their talents and helping to break down barriers to industry.

Our work is possible due to the support of over 100 Ambassadors – student and industry professionals – who are passionate about quality design in the built environment.

We believe that we can only make better places together.
