As part of our Edition one, Prosper North Community, Friends of Birley Spa were participants of the previous cohort that was selected to explore further how business support could impact and drive the mission of their organisation in Birley Spa. Edition one ran from September 2019 to March 2020. This what Friends of Birley Spa are all about.

Formed in September 2018, after a successful bid to halt the sale of this beautiful Bath House, the Friends of Birley Spa are committed to the restoration and re-opening of Sheffields‘ only Victorian Plunge Pool in its own grounds.

Through the Prosper North programme we hope to continue working to preserve our heritage, while improving wellbeing through protecting our urban wildlife.

There is much to be done to bring the building and grounds back to life. Currently we open for Heritage Talks and Tours and other events.

On completion of restoration we will have a café, Yoga Studio and multipurpose space. We hope to reopen the pool for bathing but that may take a little longer.

The grounds are a haven for wildlife and the site links up to a nearby nature reserve that joins with the Trans Pennine Trail which goes on to Rother Valley Country Park and beyond

Birley Spa is an oasis in a residential housing estate, built originally as a Spa Hotel in Sylvan grounds, we aim 177 years later to bring it back to the community hub it was always meant to be. A place to reconnect with nature and heritage and improve mental health and wellbeing. Come for a few minutes, stay for hours.
